Mission Cleanliness with Chotu

(For ages 3-6, Theme: Personal Hygiene & Body Awareness)

Chotu was a curious five-year-old who lived in a colourful house in Bangalore with his family and his pet cat Minu. He loved asking questions about everything, especially about staying clean and healthy. Sometimes he just didn’t understand why bathing every day or brushing your teeth every day was so important!

One morning, while brushing his teeth, he asked his mother, “Why do our teeth need cleaning when we only use them for eating?”

His mother smiled and brought out a mirror. “Let’s play detective! Can you see the tiny soldiers in your mouth fighting against the food monsters?”

Chotu looked closely at his reflection. “I can’t see any soldiers!”

“That’s because they’re invisible!” Amma explained. “When we brush properly, we help these tiny soldiers – called good bacteria – keep the food monsters – called bad bacteria – away. It is like a daily battle to keep our mouth castle clean!”

At school, Ms. Priya started a “Health Heroes” project. Each child got a colourful chart to track their daily hygiene habits: brushing teeth, washing hands, bathing, and wearing clean clothes.

They learned a fun handwashing song that lasted 20 seconds – the perfect time to clean away all germs:

“Top and bottom, in between,

Scrub until our hands are clean.

Round and round, fingers and thumb,

Till all the germs are overcome!”

They also learned about keeping their bodies clean and healthy. Ms. Priya used a cartoon book to explain about different body parts and their special cleaning needs. “Our body is like a beautiful garden,” she said. “Each part needs the right kind of care to bloom.”

At home, Chotu created a “Clean Time” routine chart with his parents. Morning and night became special times for self-care, with each task turned into a fun game. Even Minu seemed impressed by his new habits!
